Submissions PolicyThe Bewitched Mind forum was created by Icybeach and Steppenwolf, for the fans of Severus Snape and the Wizarding World. Most of our members enjoy good quality fiction/art/essays, and we have therefore set up some rules concerning submissions: Policy: Please note that we do not host any work made by people younger than 13, and R and NC-17 rated work by people younger than 17. What kind of fanfiction do you accept? - We only host fiction (fic) where Severus Snape is the lead character/one of the lead characters. If the story isn’t from his PoV (point of view), the plot must revolve around him. - The fiction must be well written. By that we mean; good grammar and spelling, good overall flow of sentences, good characterisation, and good dialogue between characters. - The fiction must be realistic. By that we mean; realistic events, realistic pairings, well developed and believable original characters (OC – if the fic contains them) and canon characters. - We accept pre-OotP written fiction, but not work that is written before GoF. - All canon characters must be in-canon. That means that all of JKR’s characters act and talk a certain way in the books, and should continue doing so in the fiction. Do you accept WIPs? - Yes, we do. But if we accept a WIP (work in progress), and we don’t like the look of the later submitted chapters, we will contact the author with our problem, and request that they will be changed/betaed/spellchecked/etc. If the newly submitted chapters are a direct violation of our rules, and the author refuses to change it, we might simply refuse to continue hosting the fic and remove the earlier chapters. What kind of fiction don’t you accept? - The ones that don’t fit the ones we do accept :P No, we have extra conditions: - The pairings we don’t accept: Animal/Human, Adult/Under 16, unrealistic pairings (for example: Snape/Draco’s grandmother). - We don’t accept alternative universe (AU) fiction. AU fictions are when something that has happened in the books is ignored in the fiction. For example, if the fic is about the summer after OotP, and the author decides that Sirius never died in the end of OotP. - We don’t accept cross-overs. A cross-over is when two fandoms are joined in one story, like if Buffy would visit Hogwarts. - We don’t accept Mary-Sues in OC’s or canon characters. However unfair it may seem, the BM.net administrators will be the judges of what classifies as a Mary-Sue, and what doesn’t. - Fics, where a character is being raped. It’s all right if there’s mentioning that a character has been raped, but actual graphical description is not allowed. If the fic has a character that has been raped, it must be an R or NC-17 rated fic. - Fiction featuring Alan Rickman, or any other actors. - Stories with less than 500 words (unless it’s a BM.net challenge). If it’s 500-1000 words, it classifies as a ficlet, and should be placed in that category. - If the story is a Snape/Student, and is longer than one chapter, there must be some consequences to the relationship. By consequences we mean (for example): Snape gets fired, Snape has a problem with the pairing and either ends the relationship or considers if he should end it, or that Snape is very reluctant to engage in such a relationship. - Pimp!Dumbledore. Simply because it’s a BIG pet-peeve of Icybeach. Dumbledore does not go around trying to pair Snape with some student. What kind of language do you accept in fiction? - We only accept fics written in English. - We prefer fics written in British-English, and we will not accept fics that contain much non-British slang. - We don’t accept fictions with Netspeak in it (that includes lol, brb, etc.). - No Author’s Comments in the middle of the fic (keep them in the top or at the bottom). - Severus Snape is a very articulate character, even in tough and embarassing situations. Please minimize, if not refrain from using the following in the public archives (censored by us): * Shi*Yes, we’ve actually seen these used in Snape fics. Come on people. Snape is more articulate than that! You could always visit our partner, Designer Potions, for Snape canon reference. My fiction seems to fulfill the requirements, what do I do next? - For the time being, BM.net doesn’t supply official beta readers. However, we ask that you have your work beta read, by one or more people. We will read over the fictions we get, but we don’t have time to make suggestions for corrections for all the submissions. The only things we might correct (and by submitting to BM.net you’re giving us permission to do so) are obvious spelling mistakes. - Please run a spell check before submitting, and please have your work read over and corrected by at least one other person. - Read the FAQ on how to submit. Please note that even if your fic may fit the description of what we archive, it isn’t guaranteed that your fic will be accepted. If your fic gets rejected by one of our admins, please don’t contact the other admins for second/third/fourth/etc. opinions. We trust our team members to make decisions. Our team members know what sort of fictions we’re looking for. Art in public archives - The art must be very high quality, and however unfair it may seem, our staff will be the judges of what is good enough quality for Bewitched Mind. Please take a look at the art we already host, to see the quality we’re looking for. We're very reluctant to accept Snape in Muggle clothing... - If your art gets declined by one of our admins, please don’t contact the other admins for second/third/fourth/etc. opinions. We trust our team members to make decisions. Essays in public archives Bewitched Mind will attempt to host a good selection of essays in our archives. We don’t, however, accept just any essay: - The essay must be well researched, unbiased and well written. We prefer it if the essay is not one-sided - by that we mean that things should be explored from more than one angle to give more argument or support to the subject. - Please run a spell- and grammar check before submitting, and keep your language articulate and refined. We won't accept essays that bluntly ridicule or insult other fiction/essay writers, or canon characters. - If your essay gets declined by one of our admins, please don’t contact the other admins for second/third/fourth/etc. opinions. We trust our team members to make decisions. - If you want to know more about good essay-writing, please have a look at this: A Guide For Essay Writing, by HazyJayne. If you submit your work, we assume that you've read these terms, and that you are older than 13. If you've submitted R or NC-17 rated work, you are confirming that you are at least 17 years old. |
Severus Snape and other characters, items and settings from the Wizarding World, the locations and some quotes, belong to JK Rowling, and not to us.
