NEW BROOM SWEEPS KEEN

Our spies at the Ministry of Magic reveal that, now that his feet are planted firmly beneath his desk, the Head of the Aurors’ Office has taken a thorough inventory of all documents and records, past, present and prophesied.

Shock, horror! Several files have been missed … at last. Most of them concern known or suspected Death Eaters, and were marked for Deletrius over a decade ago, during the dubious reign of Mr Thicknesse. Rumours have circulated for years that a few of the more intriguing specimens escaped this cull, particularly those once located in the AO cabinet marked ‘S – Z’.
The New Broom insists that his Office recover any and all of these files still in existence, revisiting his old role as Seeker to lead the hunt personally. In recent weeks there has been a breakthrough: during drainage work in Knocturn Alley the original manila concertina file marked ‘Severus Snape’ turned up lining a rat’s nest. Not in the best condition, but no matter … it was empty, apart from a litter of vermin. It seems the original contents have been scattered to the four winds.

FINDERS KEEPERS

We understand the contents of this file include originals or copies of almost every document that ever existed on the subject of Snape - the Aurors have been very thorough in their enquiries over the years. Many of us feel it would be more appropriate if the reconstituted information on Snape remained with us. Not that we don’t trust the New Broom, naturally … We simply feel it would be more appropriate if he were obliged to apply to Snape’s loyal minions for sight of the file, rather than the other way round.

Our mission for the summer, therefore, is to track down as many of the contents of Snape’s file as possible for safekeeping here in the dungeon, before the New Broom gets his celebrated paws on them. (A couple of items have already been recovered from ebay; whether the would-be vendors will recover as speedily is doubtful.)
Here are a few of the missing items (Muggle sources included):

  1. Background information
    • Medical, school and social service records prior to secondary education
    • Hogwarts student documentation – academic and disciplinary records
    • Pre-employment - application(s), references, routine checks, job interview(s), including psychometric tests vetted by some MoM specialist in staffing and work with children ...
    • Post-employment - T&C, personnel records, supervisions and annual assessments, career development issues, correspondence with colleagues, parents, the Board of Governors

  2. Auror’s CI Report #81/97/APWBDumbledore
    • Forensic evidence, witness accounts, etc.
    • Description of suspect, information on current whereabouts
    • Suspect/Offender profile cross-referencing
    • History – evidence of Death Eater status and use of Dark Magic
    • Other cases in which suspect has been implicated
    • Media Coverage

  3. Follow-up
    • (Empty as at 1 Aug 97) Any subsequent information about this suspect to be included here.
This list is not exhaustive. For instance, we are still trying to get to the bottom of a recent reported sighting of Snape performing magic tricks at a McBirthday in Arizona. Since it was reported in the Quibbler we’re not getting our hopes up, but you never know …

There will be extra credit for anyone who recovers more than one document. We'd love it if you make at least one submission from an area not previously covered, but this is not compulsory: go where the Muse (or the Quibbler) takes you.
